The Silver Scrolls At the beginning of the twentieth century, we didn’t have any ancient copies of the Hebrew Scriptures. The oldest extant copy dated from about A.D.1000. The critics, therefore, questioned the accuracy of the transmission of the text. In 1949, the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, pushing back the date of our oldest extant Hebrew Scriptures by a millennia.
